"Anancy"
Would the story “Anancy “ be different if it was written by a swedish person?
"Anancy" is a short story with a moral point to it, originating from Africa and rewritten by the Jamaican author Andrew Salkey.
It is a story written in a language which can be seen as if it was written for children.
Details and explanations are all very well described in a fashion where the moral cannot be erroneously comprehended.
It is about a very arrogant spider that sees himself as the top of the world, who cannot be defeated since he is huge and strong, and everyone should fear him if they would encounter him in a battle. Anancy fights multi-headed ghosts, and defeats them one after another, with his head kept high. This means the moral to it is simply to keep fighting and look at yourself as a winner, and struggle on even if it is tough and probably way out of your league.
For all that can be said, life will bring us a lot of challenges and a lot of struggle but as long as we do not step on the breaks for ourselves, these struggles will come and go like nothing.
What is so interesting in this story, however, is the mentioning of Jack Mandora("He dived into the ghost, twisted him up and twisted him round, and before you could say Jack Mandora, he dropped him like a piece of rolled-up silver paper." Salkey, 104). Jack Mandora is rather mysterious and is given the impression of being the equivalent of St Peter. Little is known about this character, since he is briefly mentioned throughout the story and not explained to the reader.

How the story would have looked if Anancy was written in Sweden by a Swedish person is quite a wide mystery. The cultural differences would definitely make the story less popular in the home country than it was not since it is from Africa. The Anancy story has been revised and changed multiple times in multiple countries and the one mentioned here is from Jamaica.
Since Sweden goes under the Jante Law (=”You are not better than anyone else”) and Anancy is very arrogant and somewhat of a narcissist, people would not find him as likeable as people would in other countries where this unofficial law does not apply. The ghosts in the story which Anancy fights perceive Anancy as foolish and arrogant, just as if they were Scandinavians, and lets him fight his own ghost.

Yes, the story would have been different if it was written by a swedish person.
The mentioning of Jack Mandora and the repeating of words connected by a hyphen are both features occurring based on cultural means from the origin of the edited version of the story "Anancy".

Så här skriv jag en uppsats till skolan som jag precis skickade in.
Den fick max innehålla 750 ord, jag kom upp till ungefär 450-500.
Önska mig lycka till med den!
