On a hot summer’s day in 2010, Christofer, Hannes and Kristoffer decided to leave the band they’d been playing in for a few years, with the goal of creating something new and better. In a tiny, damp rehearsal space on the outskirts of Gothenburg, what was to become Escape the Sun started to take form.

But the band was incomplete and needed vocals and bass. At work Hannes stumbled upon Nicklas and asked him to come and try out for the band as a bassist. The quartet started jamming and a sound was beginning to take shape. During an intense jam session, Nicklas suddenly dropped his bass and picked up a microphone, and everyone realized they had found their vocalist. However, they now needed a new bassist.

Through friends, the band came into contact with Anton who was asked to come and try out. Despite never having played metal music on bass, Anton showed the band he had the chops to get the job done. Finally Escape the Sun was complete, or so they thought.

Because of creative differences, Kristoffer left Escape the Sun shortly after, leaving the band short one guitarist. Luckily Ben, a longtime friend and a former bandmate of Nicklas had just moved to Gothenburg. Ben proved to be a perfect fit and things started to come together. The quintet started writing songs in a new rehearsal studio in downtown Gothenburg.

Working hard, Escape The Sun’s repertoire grew over the course of the next few months. They recorded a four track demo in Christofer’s living room, for use to get gigs. Escape the Sun played a number of local clubs in late 2010, getting great crowd response. And in early 2011, the band started recording their first EP, ”…as we unfold.”, borrowing the voice of Carolina Schober for backing vocals.

Shortly thereafter Hannes announced that he was moving to Malmoe for work, thus leaving the band. This was a hard blow for the band but the remaining members kept going for a while, until Christofer also made the choice to move to Malmoe for work, whereupon Escape the Sun was put on an indefinite hiatus.

A choice was made to finish the EP, with mixing duty falling on longtime friend Patrik Blomqvist. As the EP started to take shape the band realized their true potential and the power of their songs.

Right then and there it was decided to revive Escape the Sun…
